Appropriate Evaluation

What's an appropriate evaluation?
Before receiving special education services, it's required that your child have an appropriate evaluation.  IDEA requires that all assessments be nondiscriminatory and all procedures be nonbiased.  There must be a variety of assessment tools and strategies performed in order to have an appropriate evaluation.

What are the rights of and involvement available to families?
Schools must have parental consent before they can evaluate the student.  Schools must provide an evaluation at no cost if families feel one is necessary.  You may be present for evaluations and ask the person evaluating questions.
